Earnings excluding special items were $8,300 million ($1.32 per share), an increase of $2,070 million from the third quarter of 2004. Net income of $7,860 million ($1.22 per share) increased $2,420 million from the first quarter of 2004. First quarter net income included a $460 million positive impact (Downstream -- $310 million; Chemical -- $150 million) from sale of the Corporation's stake in China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation ("Sinopec").
